Early morning departure for the province of Acomayo. The drive to our trail head through pretty countryside dotted with lakes and tiny farms will take approximately 2 hours. In the first leg of the trek we leave villages and heards of sheep behind, asending past enormous stone formations, with sweeping panoramic views.
We will break for lunch near a pretty lake, then continue over beautiful rolling hills toward the ruins. With luck, we[ll be able to spot shy vicunas and vizcachas along the way. By early afternoon Wakra Pukara comes into view. The ruins are built on a steep stone tower high above the Apurimac Canyon, and can be seen from quite a distance. We arrive at camp at the base of the ruins mid-afternoon, and will spend the rest of the day touring Wakra Pukara and adjacent caves and pre/Inca ruins.
Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner prepared by our cook using local ingredients, then settle into your comfy tent for the evening, or sip a hot drink and enjoy the incredibly starry sky above.
