If you are short on time and interested in a short, challenging, and high altitude trek in the Cusco area, our Quelccaya Express route is a gorgeous option! This breathtaking route begins and ends at C’ochas, following along the expansive Quelccaya Ice Cap, the largest glaciated area of the tropics. This is a remote and little-known route, which offers solitude, physical challenge, and high altitude, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
Early morning departure from Cusco to C’ochas, the trek departure point. The drive will last approximately five hours, with the last three hours following a remote dirt road. Upon arrival, break for lunch before beginning our trek across a pretty valley filled with grazing llamas, alpacas, and multi-colored pools fed by glacial melting. We will cross a river, then begin a steady climb to Bajo Huancanay (4,755 msnm), our camp for the night.
